What the Browser Forgot
A meditation on the weird, wonderful APIs sitting unused in modern web platforms — and why we keep reinventing them in JavaScript.
There is a folder in every browser that nobody opens anymore. It contains the View Transitions API, the Popover API, anchor positioning, and a handful of other primitives that quietly arrived while we were busy installing our 47th npm package.
Some of these features replace entire libraries. Others just feel like quiet apologies for two decades of CSS pain.
